The Spring/Summer 2027 season is not one of breakthrough trends but a season of held contradictions—what WGSN names the defining theme of 2027, “interconnectedness between polarities.” Five overarching themes recur across forecasts. “Held Polarities” sits at the core, with collections refusing to choose between protection and provocation, humility and luxury, romance and armor. “Considered Pleasure” captures both the motto of “pleasure” and a call for “positive frugality.” “The Return of Elegance” marks the end of streetwear’s dominance and the revival of waistlines and tailoring. “Imperfection and the Human Mark” positions handcraft and visible making as a counter-signal to AI-generated polish. “Layering as Language” restores a vertical, compositional grammar to the wardrobe. The season will be shaped by three core narratives: grounded domesticity with a turn toward food and family; considered pleasure; and a reconnection with materials and emotion. According to Lidewij Edelkoort, “frugal fashion” marks “a clear shift from streetwear towards cultural workwear and a more practical, more formal way of dressing.”
